General purpose and private label consumer and commercial credit, debit, and prepaid cards combined to generate $7.266 trillion in purchase volume for goods and services in 2018, an increase of 9.8% from 2017. Credit card purchase volume accounted for 54.17% of that total, down from 54.37% in 2017. Purchase volume on debit cards, which includes prepaid, accounted for the other 45.83%, up slightly from 45.63% the previous year.
