The domestic debit card network in Belgium, Bancontact/Mister Cash, launched a QR-code-based mobile payment application for iOS, Android, and Windows smartphones in 2014, and at year-end 2015 more than 1.5 million Belgians were using it. Customers fund payments by linking the app to their current (checking) account.
