Shipments of chip cards reached 11.56 billion last year, up 15.1% from 2014. Nearly one-third of those were payment cards with chips — 3.43 billion, up 31.4%. The rest were cards embedded with SIMs for mobile handsets, cards used for transportation and ticketing, prepaid gift cards, prepaid phone cards, and nonpayment cards.
