First Quarter Card Results in the U.S. — 2018

Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express consumer and commercial credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued in the U.S. generated $1.427 trillion in purchase volume for goods and services in the first quarter of 2018, up 10.3% over the same period in 2017. Purchase volume on credit cards of $843.48 billion increased 9.9%. Visa purchase volume was up 10.5%, American Express grew 10.3%, Mastercard was up 8.8%, and Discover grew by 5.9%.
