General Purpose Cards — U.S. 2015

Consumer and commercial credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued in the U.S. for use on the American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa networks generated $4.786 trillion in purchase volume in 2015, up 7.8% versus 2014. That amount included PIN-based debit card figures for Visa (Interlink) and MasterCard. PIN-based cash withdrawals and advances at ATMs using Visa and MasterCard credit, debit, and prepaid cards that were cleared through the Cirrus and Plus networks are not included.
