The card and mobile payment industry continues to be highly active for mergers and acquisitions (M&A). During the first five months of 2018 there were 16 M&A deals in merchant and cardholder processing. There were also 14 investment transactions, 2 completed initial public offerings (IPOs), and 3 announcements of pending IPOs in that sector. This follows 68 M&A deals in 21 countries last year and 53 M&A deals in 19 countries in 2016.
