Mastercard and Visa credit, debit and prepaid cards in circulation worldwide generated $9.855 trillion in purchase volume for the first nine months of 2020, a decline of 0.3% versus the first nine months of 2019. Purchase volume on cards issued outside the U.S. accounted for 56.33% of the Mastercard and Visa worldwide total, a decline from 57.26% in 2019. Purchase volume on credit cards declined by 9.2% to $5.171 trillion, with 61.15% from cards issued outside the U.S., a slight decline from 61.39%.
