Outstandings on U.S. Credit Cards

Outstanding receivables from consumer and commercial products tied to American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa general purpose credit cards issued in the U.S. reached $932.85 billion at the end of 2021, an increase of 7.7% from year-end 2020. This amounted to growth of $66.56 billion in outstandings above the $866.29 billion the prior year. In 2001, general purpose credit card outstandings were $618.80 billion.
