Passkeys Replace Passwords

Protocols developed by the Fido Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) have been combined to create public-key/private-key cryptographic message exchanges called passkeys, a replacement for knowledge-based passwords used to authenticate online transactions. Apple conceived of the passkey concept a year ago. It promoted the idea of having private keys that were synced in the cloud so they could authenticate a user once and then apply that authentication to multiple browsers and devices—without having to re-enroll each device to each service.
