Store Cards in the U.S.—2020

Purchase volume generated by private label store credit cards totaled $193.45 billion in 2020, down 5.3%. This compares to a 9.0% decline in purchase volume on American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa general purpose credit cards, which totaled $3.611 trillion in 2020. Outstanding receivables tied to private label store cards dipped 10.0% in 2020 to $117.67 billion, while outstandings on general purpose cards dropped 14.9% to $866.28 billion.
