U.S. Card Spending at Merchants — 2020

Consumer and commercial general purpose credit, debit and prepaid cards issued in the United States combined generated $7.387 trillion in purchase volume at merchants in 2020, an increase of 1.0% from 2019. Purchase volume includes American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa as well as Accel, Interlink, Nyce, Pulse, Shazam, Star and other cards tied to regional PIN-based debit networks.
