U.S. Credit Cards Projected 2015–2020

General purpose and private label consumer and commercial credit cards in circulation in the U.S. at year-end 2015 totaled 1.02 billion, up 6.1% from 2014. Credit cards in circulation are projected to reach 1.20 billion by year-end 2020. Goods and services purchased using these credit cards totaled $3.104 trillion in 2015, an increase of 7.6% over 2014. In 2020, credit cards are projected to generate $4.684 trillion in purchase volume.
