U.S. General Purpose Card Brands — Midyear 2020

Credit, debit, and prepaid cards carrying American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa brands initiated 51.79 billion transactions for purchases of goods and services from January 1 through June 30, 2020. Purchase transactions declined 4.5% this year over the first six months of 2019. Visa and Mastercard brand debit cards accounted for 63.06% of combined debit and credit purchase transactions, up from 61.11% the prior year.
