American Express Results U.S./Worldwide—2018

American Express reported record profits (net income) for 2018 of $6.92 billion on revenue (net of interest expense) of $40.34 billion. In the U.S., Amex and its partners issued consumer and commercial credit (including charge) and prepaid cards that generated $771.75 billion in purchase volume for goods and services in 2018, up 9.8% over 2017. Credit card receivables increased to $119.84 billion, up 8.1%. Cards issued in the U.S. in circulation at December 31, 2018, reached 53.7 million, an increase of 7.4%.
