BYOD Merchant Checkout

Existing self-checkout systems in Europe involve consumers using a handheld barcode scanner provided when they enter the store. In the U.S., self checkout is done in-lane using countertop systems. Diebold has a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) concept for self checkout. Consumers will use the camera in their smartphone to scan the barcode on items they want to purchase.
