CFPB Investigates Zelle

Zelle, the largest peer-to-peer (P2P) payment platform in the US, is owned by Early Warning Services (EWS), which is owned by many of the country’s top commercial banks. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has opened inquiries into how JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and other owners of EWS handle complaints when consumers are victimized by scams on Zelle. Last year, consumers sent 2.90 billion Zelle transactions valued at $806 billion. EWS says that 99.5% of transactions are not disputed. However, that would mean that over 14 million transactions are disputed. ...
