DOJ Sues Visa Over Debit

The U.S. Department of Justice filed antitrust litigation against Visa in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on September 24, 2024. The civil lawsuit alleges that Visa engages in an illegal monopoly to inhibit competition in the debit card market. The complaint alleges that Visa has unlawfully amassed the power to extract fees that far exceed what it could charge in a competitive market.
