First Quarter Card Results in the U.S. — 2016

American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa, brand consumer and commercial credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued in the U.S. generated $1.213 trillion in purchase volume in the first quarter of 2016, an increase of 9.3% over the same period in 2015. Purchase volume on credit cards of $699.68 billion was up 8.7%. MasterCard grew 11.2%, Visa grew 10.5%, Discover grew 4.4%, and American Express grew 4.1%.
