General Purpose Cards—U.S. 2018

Commercial and consumer credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover brands in the U.S. generated $6.130 trillion in purchase volume (spending for goods and services) in 2018, an increase of 10.5% over 2017. Credit card cash advances at ATMs, in-store, and at bank branches as well as balance transfer offers using these general purpose cards are not included in that amount.
