General Purpose Cards-U.S. 2020

Consumer and commercial credit, debit and prepaid cards issued in the U.S. carrying Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover brand cards generated $6.749 trillion in purchase volume (spending for goods and services) in 2020, an increase of 0.8% over 2019. Credit card cash advances as well as debit and prepaid card cash withdrawals are not included in purchase volume. Debit and prepaid card purchase volume at Visa grew 15.2% to $2.231 trillion.
