Largest U.S. Credit Card Issuers — First Quarter 2022

General purpose and private label credit cards issued by the 15 largest U.S. issuers generated $1.106 trillion in purchase volume in the first quarter of this year, up 27.2% over the same period of 2021. Purchase volume was boosted by an uptick in travel-related spending and higher prices for gasoline and food. The five largest U.S. credit card issuers ranked by purchase volume—JPMorgan Chase, American Express, Citi, Capital One and Bank of America—combined accounted for $858.93 billion, up 29.1%.
