Merchant Acquiring in Argentina

Visa established local operations in Argentina in 2017. Last month, VisaNet began handling all authorization, clearing, and settlement of domestic Visa card transactions in the country, which is Latin America’s third largest card market. Previously, that network function was handled by Prisma, a processor owned by a consortium of 14 local banks and Visa. Last month, the consortium sold 51% of its shares in Prisma to private equity firm Advent International for $700 million. Prisma continues to acquire Visa card payments for many Argentinian banks.
