Credit, debit, and prepaid cards carrying the American Express, Discover/Diners Club, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa global general purpose brands generated worldwide purchase volume (spending for goods and services) of $23.020 trillion in 2017. That figure included card-present and card-not-present payments generated by credit, debit, and prepaid cards in-store and online as well as NFC-based and QR code-based payments initiated by mobile phones.
