U.S. Credit Cards Projected — 2014 through 2019

Consumer and commercial general purpose and private label credit cards in circulation in the U.S. at year-end 2014 totaled 1.05 billion, up 2.8% from 2013. Credit cards in circulation are projected to reach 1.28 billion by year-end 2019. Purchase volume for goods and services generated by these credit cards reached $2.883 trillion in 2014, an increase of 9.4% over 2013. Credit cards are projected to generate $4.293 trillion in purchase volume in 2019. Visa credit cards are expected to have the highest percentage increase in purchase volume among all brands between 2014 and 2019 — up 69.7%...
