US Card Networks at Midyear 2022

From January 1 through June 30, 2022, American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa credit, debit and prepaid cards combined generated 67.57 billion transactions for purchases of goods and services. There were 6.01 billion more purchase transactions in the first six months of 2022 than the first six months of 2021, an increase of 9.8%. Visa and Mastercard debit cards combined accounted for 60.50% of all debit and credit card purchase transactions. This was a decline from 63.96% for midyear 2021.
