Visa and Mastercard in the U.S. — 2020

Consumer and commercial credit, debit and prepaid Mastercard and Visa cards issued in the U.S. generated $5.915 trillion in purchase volume in 2020, up 3.3% from 2019. Mastercard and Visa debit card purchase volume combined exceeded credit card purchase volume combined. For the first time, debit purchase volume topped credit at Visa and Mastercard in the same year.
