Visa & Mastercard Worldwide through 3Q ‘17

Purchase volume worldwide on Mastercard and Visa credit, debit, and prepaid cards for the first nine months of 2017 totaled $8.298 trillion, up 5.7% versus the first nine months of 2016. Visa accounted for 66.57%, down from 66.92%, with 10.9% growth in purchase volume on cards issued in the United States, but only 0.9% growth on cards issued outside the U.S. For Mastercard, spending for goods and services on cards issued outside the United States accounted for 63.28% of its global purchase volume for the first nine months of 2017, up from 62.37% for the same period in 2016.
