California’s Privacy Law

The state legislature in California unanimously adopted a personal information protection law last month. The Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 lets residents of the state uncover their personal information stored online, learn why the information was gathered, and how and where it is shared by businesses. The act forbids companies from collecting information about children under the age of 16 unless there is an opt-in. Any company, including those headquartered outside the state, will have to comply.
