Citi Regains Full Control Over AA Co-branded Cards

A new 10-year agreement between Citi, the third largest credit card issuer in the US, and American Airlines, the country’s largest carrier, will commence in 2026. The companies have been co-branded card partners for 37 years. Theirs was the first airline co-branded card partnership. Included in the new agreement is Citi’s purchase of a portion of the American Airlines portfolio owned by Barclays Bank, the ninth largest US credit card issuer.
