First Quarter Card Results in the U.S. — 2017

Consumer and commercial credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued in the U.S. for use on the Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express networks generated $1.292 trillion in purchase volume in the first quarter of 2017, up 6.5% over the same period in 2016. Credit card purchase volume of $767.42 billion was up 9.7%. Visa increased 20.7%, Discover increased 5.7%, Mastercard increased 4.9%, and American Express declined 6.2%.
