Idemia and Zwipe Are Biometric Card Partners

The second largest payment card manufacturer in the world, Idemia, has formed a partnership with Zwipe, a provider of ultra-low-power technology used to add biometric authentication to high-security cards. The companies expect biometric payment cards will gain increasing acceptance by card issuers. However, biometric payment cards, which provide greater security at the point of sale than a PIN, will become mass-market only if the cost is significantly reduced.
