The 15 largest issuers of general purpose payment cards (American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay, Visa, and domestic-only brands) ranked by type (credit, debit) and purchase volume for calendar year 2014 included issuers from China, the U.S., the U.K., France, and Japan. The debit card ranking was dominated by issuers from China, with most of the purchase volume generated by UnionPay cards.
