Mastercard to Purchase VocaLink

Mastercard will acquire 92.4% of U.K.-based real-time payments specialist VocaLink for $920 million (£701 million). That company’s current shareholders could receive up to an additional $220 million (£169 million) if performance targets are met. The agreement, which will take three months or more to close, requires a majority of VocaLink’s shareholders, which are financial institutions in the U.K. including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, RBS, and Santander, to retain 7.6% ownership for at least three years.
