Mastercard & Visa Outside the U.S. through 3Q ‘16

Spending worldwide on Visa and Mastercard credit, debit, and prepaid cards for the first nine months of 2016 totaled $8.001 trillion, up 9.3% versus the first nine months of 2015. Visa accounted for 67.31%, up from 67.10%, due to its 10.3% growth in purchase volume on cards issued in the United States. For Mastercard, spending for goods and services on cards issued outside the United States accounted for 62.61% of its global purchase volume for the first nine months of 2016, up from 62.29% for the same period in 2015.
