Merchant Processing Fees in the United States—2022

General purpose and private label credit, debit and prepaid cards issued in the United States generated a combined $10.589 trillion in purchase volume in 2022, an increase of 12.3% from 2021. US merchants paid $160.70 billion in processing fees to accept those cards as payment for goods and services they provided. The amount was a 16.7% increase from $137.69 billion in 2021.
