U.S. Card Spending at Merchants — 2015

Credit, debit, and prepaid general purpose consumer and commercial cards issued in the United States generated $5.277 trillion in purchase volume at merchants in 2015, up 7.4% over 2014. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards generated a combined $2.832 trillion in 2015, up 7.6% over 2014. Debit and prepaid cards carrying those brands as well as the brands of EFT networks, including Star, Pulse, Nyce, Interlink, and Accel, generated a combined $2.445 trillion, up 7.2% over 2014. Credit cards increased market share in purchase volume over debit and prepaid cards to 53.67%...
