Carment, a payment platform from Palo Alto, California-based startup Whillet, uses Visa Direct to make payments from automotive dealerships to sellers of used cars. Transactions clear in minutes, which compares to days when dealers pay with a check. The service benefits sellers who wish to use those instant payouts to fund another vehicle purchase. In the US, around 35 million used cars are purchased by dealers annually. Of those purchases, Carment estimates 2 million would benefit from an instant payout.
