Card Fraud Losses Worldwide — 2021

Purchase volume (spending for goods and services), cash advances (against lines of credit) and cash withdrawals (from cardholder funds on deposit) tied to global brand, domestic-market-only and private label credit, debit and prepaid cards equaled $48.955 trillion in total volume worldwide in 2021, an increase of 16.6% from 2020. Card issuers, merchants, acquirers of card payments from merchants, in addition to acquirers of card transactions from ATMs incurred gross fraud losses of $32.34 billion, up 13.8% from 2020.
