Mastercard & Visa Worldwide through 3Q ‘18

Purchase volume worldwide on Visa and Mastercard credit, debit, and prepaid cards for the first nine months of 2018 reached $9.377 trillion, an increase of 12.3% over the first nine months of 2017. Cards issued outside the U.S. generated 59.01% of Mastercard and Visa global purchase volume, up from 58.44% in 2017. Purchase volume on credit cards reached $5.549 trillion, an increase of 11.0%, with 63.46% from cards issued outside the U.S., up from 63.13%.
