Merchants Settle with Visa and Mastercard

Visa will pay $119.7 million and Mastercard $79.8 million to settle remaining claims in a class-action lawsuit filed on March 8, 2016, pertaining to fraud liability regulations on card payments processed from POS terminals without chip card readers. Those funds are in addition to $32.2 million previously agreed to by American Express and Discover. Visa and Mastercard did not admit to any wrongdoing but settled after a fifth round of mediation, and after the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York concluded that the plaintiffs had not offered any direct evidence of collus...
