POS terminal manufacturer Pax Global Technology’s offices in the U.S. were searched by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Customs and Border Protection in October of this year after reports that the company’s devices potentially posed a risk to the confidentiality of consumer data. Lab tests cited by the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Cybersecurity & Critical Infrastructure indicated the terminals transmitted encrypted data to unknown domains in China.
