U.S. General Purpose Cards through 3Q 2018

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit, debit, and prepaid cards issued in the U.S. generated $4.514 trillion in purchase volume of goods and services from January 1 through September 30, 2018, an increase of 10.6% over the same period in 2017. Credit card purchase volume of $2.698 trillion was up 10.0%, and accounted for 59.78% of all credit, debit, and prepaid card spending combined.
