Profits at Top U.S. Credit Card Issuers

Collective card profits for the eight U.S. credit card issuers shown in the table on page 7 totaled $22.84 billion in 2014, down 2.2% compared to $23.37 billion for this group the prior year. Their collective provisions for anticipated card loan losses was $17.47 billion at year-end 2014, up 0.8% from $17.33 billion at year-end 2013. Bank of America’s Consumer Lending division was the most profitable with net income of $4.25 billion. Net income for 2014 declined 6.1% versus 2013. Provisions for losses fell 15.3% to $2.38 billion.
