Visa and Mastercard maintained the largest global networks of merchant acceptance locations at the end of the third quarter of 2023. The number of firmly identified in-store and online locations surpassed 100 million as of September 30. Included in that number are some micro merchants that use smartphones or handheld tablets to accept card payments.
